  • Classic craft: Roguelike mode where you must score enough to continue to the next chapters. You win if you beat all 12 levels (9 in the demo with only 1 boss). No time pressure.
  • Letter rush: Letters are dropped continuously in the cauldron and you must spell words fast enough to avoid overflow. You compete for the high score. Ends we the cauldron is full.
  • Pool: The cauldron is filled with letters. You spell as many words as possible with no new letters dropping down. No time pressure.

After Dashpong, Hyperslice and many action oriented jam games, I wanted to work on something more chill. I've been thinking about creating a word game for a while, and I'm super happy to explore a new direction with Lexispell. The goal is to make a small and cozy word game that can also be challenging for avid gamers.

I'm making this alone, with help from Trevron for the music, so don't hesitate to share and wishlist Lexispell!

I hope you'll enjoy :) - Eliptik

Only played the web version, so idk if the main game has these options, but the game definately needs the ability to reduce motion in the settings.  The combination of the constant background scrolling with the way the entire scene shifts in the opposite direction of your mouse slightly when you move the cursor around is extremely nauseating and makes it hard to look at the screen, let alone focus on the lettres.

You can remove the camera mouse offset in the settings!

This game was super fun!! I really enjoyed the experience! Some of my thoughts (fyi I am terrible at word games so some of my comments might just be me being bad at the game):

  • The capsule art and art style caught my eye! I clicked immediately. I also love the art/ui on the itch page, it looks amazing! (Did you do both game programming and art by yourself?)
  • I really enjoyed playing rocky, alphabet, adventurer!
  • A lot of stuff doesn’t seem worth buying in the shop like
    • 1 in 10 to spawn a dupe (less chance for vowels to spawn)
    • Palindromes (seems nearly impossible and maybe not worth 20 mult, but perhaps I am just not good at the game haha). I bought the other one (anadrome?) immediately due to the same reason
  • There may be some game design intention that I hadn’t fully grasped, but it would feel better for me to be able to freely remove letters from the side bag
  • Really like the color palette, but I think even though it’s a 2-color palette, the third color orange could be used more to emphasize specific ui elements, like the score, otherwise a lot of the ui blends together
  • The side bag UI overlays the scrolls when you have 4+ scrolls which feels slightly clunky if I want to check one of my scrolls while the bag is open
  • Wish there was a way to check if the current input is valid so I can plan to save letters, otherwise if I save a letter but the input is invalid, then I saved a letter for nothing since it can’t be removed. This is also important for when the word will pass you the level, but you want to keep some vowels for the next chapter
  • Sometimes a poor roll of letters that don’t contain many vowels can be potentially detrimental to the run, curious to know if there is some hidden weighting to drop more vowels if there are none
  • End game scoring very satisfying when you have a ton of scrolls!
  • bug(?) moneymaker keeps counting for 0 when triggered
  • Overall I had a ton of fun! I played one run for around an hour! I’m sure if I spent more time on this game I could figure out some more strategies, but unfortunately I am not much of a word game person so it’s too much thinking for me and my brain is totally fried, but I can tell a ton of effort was put into this game and it was a great experience overall!!

amazing

Crazy juiced up game.

The Wikitionary integration is really cool! I came here looking for ideas for my own word game, and I'm definitely stealing that, thank you!
Also very impressed that the game can technically support more languages.

I found the cauldron makes it difficult to get a real sense of what letters I have available, so I find myself just typing something that I know I have *most* letters for, and *hope* that I have the rest hiding somewhere in my peripheral. The sad thing is, when I don't have a letter, there is only a sound effect, but no visual effect whatsoever!

I found Letter Rush starts too slow and ends too quick.

And leaderboards don't seem to be working currently!

i like game

i really love the changes you made! do you plan on adding 2 player mode in a future update?

thanks a lot! How do you imagine it?

maybe a co-op mode or a 1v1! both sound great and challenging. perhaps the co-op mode could have specific criteria for the words accepted such as "no longer than 6 letters" "ends in -ly" etc. so it could add a layer to challenge and force the players to brainstorm together. for the versus mode i imagine a console-like split screen with both players competing for the highest score or the usual single-player screen, except on the top right side of your view you have your adversary's score, number of attempts and a timer for the current attempt.

good stuff!

Honestly, pretty fun game with a really nice art-style.

this was a very fun game :) maxing out on scrolls helped a lot! idk why i bought the pretti rune lol i thought the concept was funny ++ it might be a super secret mouska-tool to help us later (insert mickey) lol thank you to the creator

Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed! This useless rune can be used in the full game because you go through the Well multiple time during the run where you can trade the letters from your backpack, runes or items you have

ohhh i didn't know the items could be traded back! i saw the shopkeeper's tip that items should be chosen wisely as he wouldn't buy them back :0 cool ill find out where to sell back and maybe try it out! thank you once again! (didnt think you'd reply haha)

The game lagged out my whole computer just on the browser version alone even when nothing was big was happening in the game and would render my whole computer extremely slow even my mouse. I never had a browser game do that to my computer before even 3D ones. The game was very fun despite all that. I'll look into the downloadable versions instead.

I thought, I was the only one. It had used almost all of my RAM so I had to refresh to page. There might be a memory leak?

(+2)

Thanks for reporting I’ll check to see what’s happening

the amount that i play this on breaks at work is frankly embarrassing and i thank you for it

Glad you enjoy the game :)

(1 edit)

This game is like Balatro mixed with Yokai Watch Wibble Wobble (RIP) discontinued mixed with words and I fw it a lot

oh what that game is on steam. nice.   excited what will be added in future

Really clever game! Love the use of the gems and the roguelike progression to keep it interesting and engaging <3

Interesting concept, mixing merge gameplay and spelling gameplay!

Took me a bit to get the hang of it, but I like it a lot! It was a lot of fun trying to figure out words to spell that would most help me with the grab bag placement!

Can't wait to try the full thing, very well made!

Thank you so much for playing! Glad you enjoyed it :)

It's very peak but it downloads as a zip and I can't really have it as an app:( maybe i just suck at file management but it's really confusing to me haha

(1 edit) (+1)

What OS are you trying to play with? If windows or linux just extract the zip (right click extract) and launch the executable in the extracted folder. Alternatively if you use the Itch io app it doesn’t that for you.

(+1)

honestly really fun. It's like a mix of melon merge (or whatever it is called) and spelling!

It’s quite difficult to handle many languages especially if they don’t have latin characters, sorry about that! Glad to know you enjoyed it

i really love this game and i played it a bunch but there's a huge bug that prevents me from playing the classic mode specifically: if i exit a classic run (bug works for both francais and english) and i boot the game up again, if i try to press resume game it just freezes and i have to reboot the game, and it's the same freeze if i try to start a new classic run. letter rush is unaffected. version: 0.0.26 on windows 10

yesterday i had to boot up the game like twice before it let me start a new game (because i had a saved one beforehand) but now i can't get it to work at all

dont know if this helps but i have a low end HP laptop from 2018 with 4gb ram

(+1)

I had difficulty using the laptop's touchpad while playing.

(-1)

OP why the HELL does it accept ch*nk

chunk?

(-1)

The chinese sl*r

(+3)

Assuming your asterisk is an i that's a real word that has everwl meanings. One of the most common examples would be the classic phrase, "A chink in their armor." Referring to a vulnerability.

OP, why did you try to use the word?

(+1)

using the wand of disconsonance (replacing a consonant with a random vowel) i chose a consonant (g or c) and it changed it to a P, definitely not a vowel lol. i really like the game though, very fun

(+1)

Good catch! I fixed it and it’ll be live in the coming week hopefully. Thanks for playing!

PS: sorry for the late reply, you comment was hidden under ā€œpending moderationā€

Great concept and gameplay, a very solid deckbulider! This does seem to have some sort of a memory leak problem though. The web version of the game sorta crashes after 3-4 minutes of gameplay. This could be an issues solely on my computer but I thought it would be helpful to let you guys know.

(+2)

Thanks for letting me know, I’ll investigate to see if I can understand what’s hapenning!

Funny! I wasted several hours and don't regret anything. Tried my best to gather supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Unfortunately I couldn't :)

That’s awesome thaks for playing!

Hi

(+1)

Cool game! :D

(+1)

i love it :D

(+1)

I think this is really fun, I like it!
I do want to mention just to see, in the later levels I completed them in about 2 words. in the final 'normalist' level I completed it in 1 word

(+1)

Tried it on Steam!

Quite a fun experience in my opinion, but there few minor issues.

First, the color scheme is soft and visually appealing, but it makes a lot of the UI blend together, which makes hard to tell what's important/relevant. Consider adding something to help separate the foreground from the background.

If you have 10 Scrolls, you cannot sell the bottom one because the button is so low that it's off the screen.

Also, if you have at least 3 runes, it starts removing them from the shop.

All in all, a joy to play! Looking forward to seeing where you go with it.

(+1)

Thank you for your feedback! I’m already working on some of it so it should be better soon :)

(1 edit) (+1)

Like some other people said, it seems to have issues running on Firefox. Even after I left and continued a run, it still had severe lag on specifically the first level after I entered a shop on each attempt.

Going to try it on Steam

(+3)

so cool, i feel like it'd do great on mobile or apple arcade

C'est un vif plaisir et la complexitƩ potentielle ajoute du piment. Je joue pour le moment en vitesse restreinte et me prƩpare Ơ faire chauffer les neurones. Les franƧais aiment les mots et vont aimer.

I had severe stutter on web here, to a standstill, during the second chapter of the tutorial

(+1)

Can you tell me your specs? Try the desktop version if you can

(+1)

Mozilla 148.0.2

i9-9900K

I liked what I saw, so I wishlisted the game. If you plan on playtesting a build, I'll gladly join your discord and give it a go again

(+1)

Weird you have a beefy computer. I’m wondering if it’s not because of firefox or harwarde acceleration not working correctly.

(+1)

Looks great and funnn

(+1)

very strong core machanism! I love the UI design

(+1)

Idea simple pero muy bien ejecutada y muy bien vestida con un buen tutorial y apartado grƔfico. Interesante!

(-3)

Appearantly, you don’t want Feedback from Phone Players

(+2)

The feedback form was made for Steam and when I published it on itch I didn’t think people would play on their phone because I didn’t put an android build.

I’ll update the form to include Itch

(-6)

There’s a WebĀ Version and itch didn’t warn that ā€œThis game is not designed to run on your device.ā€, so ofĀ Course i would tryĀ it on my Phone.

(+4)

The style kind of reminds me of the game "Is this seat taken?"

(+1)(-1)

yeah it does :/

(1 edit) (+3)

Yeah their game looks really great the palette is inspired from them!
