🌞  Cozy & relaxing
Sit back, grab a hot drink, and spell your way to victory

👆 Interact how you want
Play with mouse, keyboard, touchscreen or controller.

đŸƒâ€â™‚ïž Chill or hectic play, you decide!

  • Classic craft: Roguelike mode where you must score enough to continue to the next chapters. You win if you beat all 9 levels.
  • Letter rush: Letters are dropped continuously in the cauldron and you must spell words fast enough to avoid overflow. You compete for the high score. Ends we the cauldron is full.

After Dashpong, Hyperslice and many action oriented jam games, I wanted to work on something more chill. I've been thinking about creating a word game for a while, and I'm super happy to explore a new direction with Lexispell. The goal is to make a small and cozy word game that can also be challenging for avid gamers.

I'm making this alone, with help from Trevron for the music, so don't hesitate to share and wishlist Lexispell!

I hope you'll enjoy :) - Eliptik

so cool, i feel like it'd do great on mobile or apple arcade

C'est un vif plaisir et la complexité potentielle ajoute du piment. Je joue pour le moment en vitesse restreinte et me prépare à faire chauffer les neurones. Les français aiment les mots et vont aimer.

I had severe stutter on web here, to a standstill, during the second chapter of the tutorial

Can you tell me your specs? Try the desktop version if you can

Mozilla 148.0.2
2080ti
i9-9900K

I liked what I saw, so I wishlisted the game. If you plan on playtesting a build, I'll gladly join your discord and give it a go again

Weird you have a beefy computer. I’m wondering if it’s not because of firefox or harwarde acceleration not working correctly.

Looks great and funnn

very strong core machanism! I love the UI design

Idea simple pero muy bien ejecutada y muy bien vestida con un buen tutorial y apartado grĂĄfico. Interesante!

Appearantly, you don’t want Feedback from Phone Players

(+1)

The feedback form was made for Steam and when I published it on itch I didn’t think people would play on their phone because I didn’t put an android build.

I’ll update the form to include Itch

(-6)

There’s a Web Version and itch didn’t warn that “This game is not designed to run on your device.”, so of Course i would try it on my Phone.

(+4)

The style kind of reminds me of the game "Is this seat taken?"

(-1)

yeah it does :/

(1 edit) (+2)

Yeah their game looks really great the palette is inspired from them!

(+2)

It looks really neat (which is why I've downloaded it now, hoping to play it) but it basically doesn't work in my browser (Firefox).  There's about a half a second of lag between input and response, which isn't the end of the world.  Animations play in stop motion, which is also not the end of the world but I don't think it's supposed to happen.  Two minutes into this experience, the entire browser crashes (this has happened twice now), which is . . . not ideal.

Wow weird, have you had a better experience with the downloaded version?

What’s your config out of curiosity. Also I think generally chrome is better for games (or chromium based if you want to avoid google).

Works for me on fox with no issue. May be browser settings like reduced motion and graphics acceleration :c

(+1)

Awesome game! It grabs your attention from the start and keeps you hooked. The graphics are super stylish (speaking as an artist 😉), and the music is perfectly chosen — really meditative and immersive. Overall, just excellent! 🎼✹

I like the idea behind this game, and I also like the background choice for the page!

will it have local highscores lists I hope?

Yeah I could do that for the itch version. Ideally I’d have a shared leaderboard for all platforms but not for now. Thanks for the suggestion!

yw and thank you <3

This game is really fun and cute. My name is lexi and I smile every time I open the game! Would love if the layout was a little better for mobile browser as the text and floating windows are all a bit small when playing vertical. Thank you for this really cool game!

That’s awesome, glad you like it! I’ll think about a proper mobile version after the PC release :)

Fantastic game.

Arachnoid, arachnophile, and a bunch of other medical and scientific terminology aren't in the dictionary. though.

Don’t hesitate to submit them in game (pause menu > missing word). I’ll add them to the list

Are you really advertising your own project on the page of someone else’s ? ._.

(+2)

SO FUN. I wish it was an app so I could play it wherever. My only critique is sometimes the gem instructions stay up too long and I can't see the letters behind it. Great job.

(+1)

Thank you! I’m focusing on PC release first but I’m not against a potential mobile release too ;)

would love to play mobile!!!!!!!

The lexicopedia doesn’t seem to be scrollable. Mouse scrolling, clicking or dragging the scrollbar, and clicking or dragging the content, all did not work.

You’re right thanks for reporting! I already have a fix, I’ll push asap

I assumed additive was supposed to accrue a bonus that applies to every word you play but that is not how it works. Can it either be made more clear or bugfixed depending on intention?

Oh yeah you’re right the definition is not clear. It’s supposed to apply only when you use the letter but the bonus itself grows everytime

After playing some more I clicked the feedback button. Several of the required questions ask for things that weren't applicable. Like the first I encountered asked if I used a Steamdeck, Windows PC, or Apple PC. I used an Android tablet. One of the next questions asked what I thought of the Steam page. I've never seen it, I found this on the front page of Itch and had never heard of it before.

You might want to adjust the form a little bit.

Thanks for your comment, I’ll take a look

It seems pretty fun. Playing on an android tablet with touch controls, it was kind of hard to see what special characters did. If I touched them in a word it would just deselect them. If I tried to hold it the explainer tip would come up, but it wobbled around a lot and lowered the opacity to the point it was basically unreadable despite all the other game text being clear.

Otherwise it seemed good. In the speed mode, the letters fell pretty quickly, but I've never been great at these kinds of games. It might be nice if the overflow timer didn't start until the letters had settled, as it's difficult to start spelling when the letters are still merging and moving around.

(+1)

Thanks for your feedback. I know touch controls are not optimal right now. It’s not yet my focus as I’m targetting PC first. I’ll definitely make it better in the future.

I adore this cute art style, and the pigeon

I highly recommend this game jam; it's the best game jam in the world! https://itch.io/jam/gamejampro
(1 edit)

The game feels too easy at first but gradually, almost without noticing it, the bar rises until it becomes a challenge and then seems nearly impossible. Then, after you've lost you start rethinking those earlier purchases and realizing that they only seemed superfluous at first because their purpose is for that later time. Unexpected depth.

PS. but "creamsicles" is totally a word.

Just did a round of Letter Rush. My word list went out of bounds.

Lol, I might put that into a scrollContainer! Thanks for sharing :)

I put this in the feedback survey but I found a bug! when the tutorial is asking you to put a letter in the backpack, you can use the remaining letters which soft locks the game, since you cannot request more letters while in that stage of the tutorial

Oh yeah that should not be possible, thanks!

cool game :)

the most fun ive had in a while!!! can't wait for the full version to be out!!

also petrichor not accepted as a word? T T

Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed :) hmmm, I’m adding it to the list

Balatro x Scrabble!

Btw the mute button doesn't seem to work, nor does pressing E

The mute button is just to mute Pip during the tutorial so he doesn’t do pigeon noise when talking

Ah ok, then maybe the icon should have a pigeon icon in it, otherwise it just looks broken! Btw why does pip have one green leg and one purple? Fashion accessory?

estå divertido y ni siquiera se inglés XD

Very enjoyable - I love spelling and merge games. My only crit was mentioned before, the submit and cancel buttons moving can be a bit confusing.

(+1)

I tried submitting two words to the thing in the pause menu, but it wouldn't let me. The words are nocturnal and nocturnally.

I would also like to add skinwalker and skinwalkers, as I lost a run due to them not being words

thanks for submitting! I think itch might restrict my api request somehow, I’ll check what’s happening!

Same, I tried adding strikest, and even it showed up in the dictionary, it wouldn't let me submit it.

Yeah, 'weaponize' and 'weaponized' didn't work for me

hey! just thought i'd let you know this game showed up when i searched "horror," might wanna check the tags!

itch is broken then lol

Hoarder seems to only add one point instead of the actual calculated value

Oh, I’ll take a look thanks for reporting!

Wow! Huge roguelike fan here (pretty much the only genre I play because of my OCPD attention span) and OMG! That was so good! I loved it! Thank you!!!!! Will definitely be wish listing. No notes! <3 XD Sorry I can't be more helpful in that regard. Maybe more music? I guess that was the only thing I noticed. Genuinely though, great work!

Sellout is probably too overpowered.

the only scroll really adding to my score yeah

It’s quite powerful compared to the rest yes. I’ll work on balancing very soon!

I don’t know if I am doing it wrong or what but I cannot even beat the first level

The key is to spell long words if you can. Don’t hesitate to request more letters initially using the button on the right of the cauldron (but be careful of overflow). More letters == more multiplier so the score will grow quite a lot

Loved the Demo. The aesthetics, sound effects, and UI juice are just right.

2 things I encountered:

1. When you are removing letters from your word by clicking on them, the submit button moves. I accidentally submitted a word by clicking in the same spot where a letter used to be, hitting the submit button that now moved to that location, and was unlucky enough that the shorter word was valid, thus submitting it unintentionally. Ideally the most important buttons would stay in predicable locations.

2. A more accurate prediction of expected points would be nice, currently the estimate given seems nowhere close to the end result. Even if you don't want to show the effects of scrolls, it would be nice to the expected points if you had a purple gem which doubles other gems in your word.

Great work!

Oh yeah submitting a word by mistake is painful, I’ll see what I can do!

I don’t want to show the scrolls effect indeed but I understand that seeing the purple gem only when you validate can be frustrating. I’ll fix it :)

Thanks a lot for playing :)

the gameplay is fun and the overall design is pleasing to the eye but

its a bit inconvenient for the descriptions of the special letters to pop up onto the playing field(maybe there's room under the items inventory?)

i was afraid that the game was gonna crash bc its a bit choppy at times(but that might just be me or a consequence of playing in browser)

i did try "nunchuck" in a desperate attempt at using the k but it wasnt accepted

(take this with a grain of salt obvi bc i dont make games i just play em)

kudos for the linux build

will be watching this game

Thanks a lot! I might make the popup on letters optional. Once you know the game they’re not really needed anymore.

yeah unfortunately playing in the browser is not ideal especially the first time as some shaders have to compile and it can get quite choppy.

I’ll verify that and add it to the words ;) You should be able to submit it using the built in tool in the pause menu
